Good news! So, my auditions this weekend were a success. The PATA audition was on Saturday. On Sunday I got an email from a Portland director who saw my audition and had some wonderful things to say, as well as offered me two complimentary tickets to see the theater company’s August show. I am definitely looking forward to that. And this morning I got an invite for a production company general audition this weekend. They call themselves Curious Productions(http://www.curiouscomedy.org/about). Very excited about possibly doing some improv, meeting funny people and seeing what happens. Feedback on an audition is not something you get very often, so I was pleasantly surprised to have made such a positive impression.

My Profile Theatre (http://www.profiletheatre.org/) audition was so much fun. No monologue, just sides for “Rowena,” in “Biloxi Blues.” The guy I read with was great, very reminiscent of Matthew Broderick in the role. I left the audition feeling good about what I was able to do, and apparently they agreed! I received a call last night from the theater, calling me back next Monday, for the same role. Regardless of the outcome, what a fantastic way to introduce myself to the Portland theater community. Success! Updates to follow…

Well, I am looking forward to the two auditions I have this weekend. The first is for Portland Theatre Alliance, and it is a general audition for all theaters in Portland, Oregon. I applied for a slot a while ago, and got one. I thought since I have been an East Coaster for the past five years, it might be a great way to introduce myself to the community. In combination with the mailing I did two months ago, it certainly can’t hurt. Sunday I have an audition for The Profile Theatre, in Portland (a result of my mailing, thankyouverymuch). I am called in for the role of Rowena in “Biloxi Blues.” Very excited to prepare and read some sides. It has been a while. Visit me next week for an update on how these went. Love to all.

Auditions!

I did a mailing for Portland theaters, and I have gotten some phonecalls to schedule a few auditions! Very exciting. It has been a while since I have had an actual theater audition and I am really looking forward to it. I have a couple great, contemporary contrasting monologues (and they translate on camera, which is something that makes me very happy. Will work well for Los Angeles, when that time comes). My first audition is June 14th, for Northwest Children’s Theater and I am going to sing for that one, as well. It will be good for me. June 21st, I have a Portland Theater Alliance audition, which will be for several equity and non-equity theaters. Nice. Aaaaand today I got a phone from a smaller theater in Portland, calling me in specifically for “Biloxi Blues,” which would be very cool. I will keep you posted on all this.

Here is a headshot from a my first professional photo session. It was my first year in graduate school and I took the train into NYC and spent the day getting my headshots done in a beautiful highrise apartment, looking over the water. It was very exciting. There are more shots from this session in the “Headshots” section on the right. The were taken by Peter Hurley.

Slowly, but surely, folks!

I just wanted to let everyone know that my site is slowly getting there. There are quite a few pictures posted, however they are web links, so I am trying to figure out how to get them uploaded from my computer, so they are permanent and don’t go away! At least you can all get a feel for the style I am going for, and I have to say that I am pretty happy with it. Classic and fresh, just like me:) Take look and enjoy, and just remind yourself, it will be super sweet in a few weeks (or sooner)! I am not a tech gal, so I keep emailing my poor web guy with a billion questions (sorry, Trent)…I’ll get it eventually.

My name is Morgan Elizabeth Cox, hence the web address.  I was born in Hillsboro, Oregon, grew up in Portland, went to the only single gender high school in the state, Saint Mary’s Academy, located in the heart of downtown Portland, which is an awesome city, btw.  I felt so cool, because when I was a senior I got off campus privileges for lunch.  Yeah, that’s right, this city girl got to walk to the mall, or down the block for Hot Lips Pizza.  I felt super independent.  After high school, I went to college at Santa Clara University, located in, well, Santa Clara, California.  The Bay Area, Northern California, you get it.  I began with a major in communications, thinking it would be great to be one of those “TV news people,” but after one semester I quickly realized I did not want to focus on the communications department, I wanted to focus on the theater and dance department, which is what I did.  I changed my major to theater, with a minor in dance.  Oh yeah, I was a ballerina with twelve years of classical training, but changed my mind:)  I graduated with a BFA in theater, and actually had to get rid of my minor, because I spent too much time in play rehearsals to actually fulfill my dance requirements. Ha.  After college, I auditioned for grad schools via U/RTA, which is a huge audition for graduate acting programs, most of which offer full ride scholarships, as well as teaching assistantships.  They audition in NYC, Chicago, and San Francisco.  I did not plan on going to grad school, I actually ended up auditioning, because some of my friends were doing it and SCU offered coaching for it, soooo…I figured why not try?  Well, I tried and ended up getting called back to eight schools, receiving offers from three of them, the highest of which was Temple University, in Philadelphia.  I accepted Temple’s offer and spent the next three years, living on my own in a huge city, and going to school in North Philly (not the prettiest of places) and loving (basically) every minute of it.  I was one of three women chosen for a class of eight actors.  Temple accepts one class every three years, so we were the sole focus those three years, and it was amazing.  I made great connections, learned so much about myself, and met some people I know will be in my life forever.  I stayed on the East for the following two years, living in NYC and Philly, and working with various theaters, one with a special place in my heart, The Berkshire Theatre Festival, where I was cast multiple times and received my first official (and good) reviews for my performances.  There is more to this, but I will save it for another entry…
